Success story: Pretzel finally finds forever home after waiting 233 days

(Please be advised that the adopter removed his face mask to take a quick photo only. The SAHS is practicing safe distancing, wearing masks and following all other safety guidelines and protocols set by the CDC, city and state.)

It was worth the wait!

After spending nearly seven months at the San Antonio Humane Society (SAHS), Pretzel has found his forever home.

This handsome 2-year-old Dutch Shepherd mix first arrived at the SAHS when he was transferred from Animal Care Services in January. As one of our longest residents this year, Pretzel developed a special bond with many shelter staff and volunteers, who loved teaching him new tricks and taking him out on daily walks.

During his stay at the SAHS, Pretzel participated in a fun Dog Day Out, practiced his social and behavior skills training, and enjoyed all kinds of enrichment activities. He will also be featured in the special edition 2021 Whataburger calendar, gracing – coincidentally – the month of January (the month he arrived at our shelter).

Everyone at the shelter will miss him. He is described as an affectionate boy who loves to sniff and explore everything, and of course, get plenty of belly rubs.

When Chris Gill discovered Pretzel online, he instantly knew he wanted to take him home.

“It was his face and that smile,” he said. “He just looked like a sweet dog that I could totally see myself with and have a great time. I’m so excited!”

Before Pretzel left with his new dad, employees made sure to take photos and say goodbye. He returned the favor with kisses!

We'll miss you, Pretzel!
