thrive when they are kept together. They can easily become depressed or anxious
if they are separated.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Our sweet and playful senior ladies, Sam and Candy, are
looking for a home to spend the rest of their golden years together! Sam, an 11-year-old
Retriever/Labrador mix, and Candy, a 10-year-old Shepherd mix, have spent most
of their lives together – their special bond is undeniable! They never leave
each other’s side and love to do everything together, whether it is going for a
walk, enjoying a cozy nap or running around in the play yard. Candy is a happy girl,
who loves to smile with her tongue hanging out. Sam is the more curious and
adventurous one, who loves to explore her surroundings. Sam has received laser
therapy due to her arthritis and is feeling much better, becoming more active
and running around more. Her marking kicks are adorable! Together, they will

Due to unfortunate circumstances, their previous owner could no longer care for them, and sadly, the change of environment has caused them to become extremely timid and anxious. We are currently working on building up their confidence, but they still need help feeling safe and comfortable. They will do best in a calm and quiet household, where they can continue to receive extra love and attention. traveling buddies <o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Turner and Hooch, who got their names due to their
tight-knit bond and their comical difference in size, traveled more than 150
miles before arriving at the SAHS. A group of military men found them wandering
their military base in Laredo, Texas last December. Since they were being
deployed immediately, they couldn’t bear the thought of leaving them abandoned.
Fortunately, they drove to San Antonio, and we were able to take them in at the
last minute. Turner is a small to medium wiry 1-year-old Terrier mix, and Hooch
is a large 1-year-old Shepherd, Husky mix with beautiful bi-colored eyes. Soon
after, we learned Hooch was limping on his right hind leg, and X-rays showed a
chronic hip fracture. He was treated and underwent surgery, freeing his leg
from grinding against his painful hip fracture, and is now doing much better! These
boys have received nothing but love and care by our staff and volunteers. Turner
and Hooch love to play and wrestle together and are quite inseparable. These
two have chosen each other, and we cannot separate them! They hope to find a fun
loving home where they can continue their journey together!</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='429' height='357' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dxiz2CqFICs-wbbbM5R-kHhi5d63JwbnbthArTxlEpEKbGtkB8vRn-DK-h_2Q7aNV_wUL8zglSekHyRTK8TLw' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><p></p>

friends and deserve to stay together. When they’re not playing and napping
together, Mario loves birdwatching on top of the kitty tower, while Luigi enjoys

<p class="MsoNormal">The sweet 5-year-old was the first Feline Immunodeficiency
Virus (FIV) cat to receive medical care at our new Leeu Naylor Medical Building
on Nov. 11. The back of his mouth showed ulceration due to gingivitis, and his X-rays
revealed a broken, unhealthy canine tooth. He was treated with antibiotics and had
several teeth extracted to relieve his ulceration and inflammation. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Following his dental surgery, Glen received laser therapy to
accelerate his healing and looked adorable in his goggles! Our medical staff
gave him constant love and attention, fed him tasty canned food and surrounded
him with soft toys. He quickly transformed from being a quiet, sick cat into a

<p class="MsoNormal">Although Glen is FIV-positive, he is in good health. FIV is
passed between cats via deep penetrating bite wounds from serious fighting, not
the typical swatting or batting. Affected cats can become immunosuppressed and
are more susceptible to other infectious diseases. This disease is incurable
but many cats can live a regular life, especially if they receive regular
veterinary check-ups, proper nutrition, and are not subjected to extra stress
in their lives. Adopters should not worry about contracting FIV because it
cannot be transmitted to humans.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Glen is now ready for adoption to a household without any
other cat(s) or with other FIV-positive cats. He must be kept indoors to reduce
the risk of exposure to other diseases. Adopters are encouraged to discuss any
concerns with their veterinarian prior to adoption.<o:p></o:p></p>

holiday season, please submit an online adoption application at

excited that <b>November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month</b> because we love our senior
pets here at the <b><a href="www.sahumane.org">San Antonio Humane Society</a></b> (SAHS). They usually tend to spend

mix beauties arrived at the SAHS together after their previous owner could no

and have a special bond. They hope to find a loving home where they can continue

purr-fect family soon!</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Elle the kitten arrived at the San Antonio Humane Society
(SAHS) last month with severe eye infections. Her left eye was even more noticeable
as it was enlarged and painful. SAHS veterinarians made the decision to remove
both of her eyes to alleviate her pain and prevent further infections.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Following her surgeries, Elle’s founder agreed to foster her
during her healing process. As she started to feel better, Elle started to
explore her new surroundings.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“Elle has been fearless, becoming more energetic and
confident after her surgeries,” her foster mom said. “She likes being close to
you, loves to cuddle, and purrs so loudly! When she is up, she loves to play
and wrestle with anyone, no matter how big, and then will cuddle up afterwards.”<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmCwxkUcJQ6qlP_71akkIb82MVzpB9WPzYNDJMfKpYF8OYyJvbpaTe8bsKfdhb3JqOn_UHRvelc_JaRdJLCzsZf0tYiYH8QSGpM_gDypqci68bXCSbWLIcpIC3ckdTLwCPCfffyuW46tZt/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="450" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmCwxkUcJQ6qlP_71akkIb82MVzpB9WPzYNDJMfKpYF8OYyJvbpaTe8bsKfdhb3JqOn_UHRvelc_JaRdJLCzsZf0tYiYH8QSGpM_gDypqci68bXCSbWLIcpIC3ckdTLwCPCfffyuW46tZt/w601-h450/IMG_20201011_151122105.jpg" width="601" /></a></div><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">With the help of her whiskers, Elle learned to navigate the
home in just a few days.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“She adapted pretty quickly and was able to jump up and down
from our couch and bed,” her foster mom added. “She still ran into things when
she got excited playing and running but was able to get around our house
relatively efficiently when she was walking. I have no doubt that she will be
fully functional and mobile once she learns the layout of her forever home.”<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Elle is now back at our shelter and ready to find her fur-ever
family. She is well mannered, loves being near humans, and gets along with
other pets. As a visually impaired kitten, she will need special care when she is
introduced to her new home to help reduce her risk of falling down stairs or
off high counters. However, once she fully adapts, she can continue to live a full
and happy life as an indoor cat.</p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzuVot1W889-c5vcdaUHR9hZ2oYvCwn-4lX95QJxrf36D6Ykz-sVpYOI6X_R3yvjxT2OW0-ho-2HR09a2TQ2EmRAueasxCVOYBeK237toNFp-7hWqrlmEphXNTYPqQYXmusuo7paQWUCm1/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="448" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzuVot1W889-c5vcdaUHR9hZ2oYvCwn-4lX95QJxrf36D6Ykz-sVpYOI6X_R3yvjxT2OW0-ho-2HR09a2TQ2EmRAueasxCVOYBeK237toNFp-7hWqrlmEphXNTYPqQYXmusuo7paQWUCm1/w596-h448/IMG_20201008_204017792.jpg" width="596" /></a></div><o:p></o:p><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“Because she has lived with limited vision for a while and
is young, she should adapt well to life without sight and will use her other
senses to navigate,” SAHS Associate Veterinarian Dr. Leslie Hopes said. “From
day one, Elle has been a happy kitten who loves people, and her loss of vision
has not affected her happy little spirit.”<o:p></o:p></p>

implemented a new laser therapy as a new addition for the care of our pets. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The innovative treatment (photobiomodulation therapy) is
helping relieve a multitude of symptoms in our furry pets recovering from a
variety of acute and chronic conditions such as dental procedures, infections,
wounds and arthritis. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The fast-acting and customizable laser therapy effectively
reduces pain and inflammation, as well as promotes accelerated healing –
complete with the most adorable “doggles!” <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Most recently, our pets have received the laser therapy to
help heal tooth extractions (Dexter and Vixen), deliver targeted care to our
orthopedic surgery cases (Addie and Judge) and offer relief to our chronic
arthritis cases (Sam and Candy). <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“The addition of the cold laser therapy for the shelter
animals has opened up a whole new modality and level of patient care that we
can now provide,” SAHS Associate Veterinarian Dr. Leslie Hopes said. “The SAHS
has always provided wonderful post-operative care for our cases, but adding
this laser therapy has helped us to provide faster healing.”<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHO8MNhOPIq2IsurTs3fD1Gs4ANdVaVUKaZQ1SyQo-yR84hx5Hl-XWVD77mX0KifYFeHFGd7pae1kD_ZPbIzDmjmooCT2GPuRi6D2JzIHRbDLo8Pt1NBpN7c4NOQc_MlpzMBRs0N7O83Ql/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="773" data-original-width="1031" height="449" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHO8MNhOPIq2IsurTs3fD1Gs4ANdVaVUKaZQ1SyQo-yR84hx5Hl-XWVD77mX0KifYFeHFGd7pae1kD_ZPbIzDmjmooCT2GPuRi6D2JzIHRbDLo8Pt1NBpN7c4NOQc_MlpzMBRs0N7O83Ql/w600-h449/IMG_5196.jpg" width="600" /></a></div><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The case of Lady, a sweet 5-year-old cat, is another great example
of how beneficial the laser therapy can be. She arrived at the SAHS after being
rescued ahead of Hurricane Laura and developed an upper respiratory infection,
which can occur in stressed cats. Despite weeks of antibiotic care, she still
had nasal congestion and tested negative for common feline viruses and bacteria.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">When Dr. Hopes tried the laser therapy on her for chronic
rhinitis/sinusitis, she was amazed by the great results. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“I think it was the coolest and most obvious result. Her
congestion has almost gone away entirely,” Dr. Hopes said. “She will likely
always be a chronic sniffler, but the laser helped reduce the inflamed tissues
in her nasal passages and really helped her breathe easier.”<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The duration of each laser therapy treatment is determined
by the pet’s physical examination and condition. Our pets do not feel any
discomfort as the treatment is non-invasive and the laser is cold. The pet,
veterinarian and/or vet technician also wear eye protection during each
treatment. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“It is definitely one of the most versatile therapies we
have to offer now, and with its short treatment time, most of our patients
don't even mind sitting still for therapy,” Dr. Hopes concluded.<o:p></o:p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="481" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/oXnYFsoVG_8" width="578" youtube-src-id="oXnYFsoVG_8"></iframe></div><br /><p class="MsoNormal"><br /></p>San Antonio Humane Societyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07686501530171122264noreply@blogger.com04804 Fredericksburg Rd, San Antonio, TX 78229, USA29.4968653 -98.5549711.1866314638211541 -133.711221 57.807099136178849 -63.398720999999995tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8866274441658173816.post-44331985024045616262020-10-14T17:04:00.000-05:002020-10-14T17:04:14.784-05:00Pup born with extreme overbite gets a second chance <p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiD2LXmJa4WwRcNSUHfzEGV-aKgnZcPsLRVCRMAyVAXfd_unF-QZaVdTwWiEk3T-0_CAlcrjjKP-UCtPnYuHrsKxPpDk3s1aTbjrAwgNhIPz5gD2lohk_3yJUNr6SynfwF8T9kj66Vtf18/s2048/Ellaa.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1152" data-original-width="2048" height="353" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiD2LXmJa4WwRcNSUHfzEGV-aKgnZcPsLRVCRMAyVAXfd_unF-QZaVdTwWiEk3T-0_CAlcrjjKP-UCtPnYuHrsKxPpDk3s1aTbjrAwgNhIPz5gD2lohk_3yJUNr6SynfwF8T9kj66Vtf18/w629-h353/Ellaa.png" width="629" /></a></div><p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Calibri Light",sans-serif; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">Ella arrived at the San Antonio Humane Society on Sept. 23 with a

together in September after their previous owner could no longer care for

they were best friends and had a special bond we could not break. We knew they
needed to find a home together.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Luckily, a warm and loving couple learned about their
special relationship and decided to adopt both of them on Oct. 12. Sam and
Candy found their perfect match! <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Their first meeting was perfect. Sam and Candy knew they
were going home. As soon as they met their new parents, they instantly smiled
and felt comfortable.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The couple shared they already had a bonded pair at home
(also rescues!) and knew how important it was to keep them together.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“We know how it is,” they said. “We can’t wait to take them
home to their new brothers and sisters!”<o:p></o:p></p>

their FURever home! They will never have to worry about being separated <3

together fur-ever! <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The beautiful 1-year-old Retriever best friends were abandoned tied
to a tree at the San Antonio Humane Society last month. They were both scared
and pregnant. A few days later, they both gave birth to puppies on the same night! We
quickly realized these two dogs had a special bond. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Riley is always protective of River, and they love doing
everything together. They always found comfort in one another and grew more confident
with each passing day. Because of their strong bond, we hoped that River and
Riley would be adopted together. And this week, that wish came true! Not only did
River and Riley find a loving home, but they will also continue to spend the
rest of their lives together.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Their new parents say it was love at first sight when they
saw them available for adoption. When they heard their story,
they didn’t even have to think about it. They knew they wanted to keep them together. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“We’ll make sure they’re happy and well taken care of,”
their new mom said. “We have a big yard, so they’ll have plenty of space to run
and play. We’re really excited to take them home.” <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Watch the video below and consider adopting a bonded pair today.

<p class="MsoNormal">When Clifford was brought to the San Antonio Humane Society (SAHS)
a month ago, we noticed something was wrong his left eye. The globe was blue
indicating inflammation, and the white part around the eye was irritated and
red. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">SAHS veterinarians began treating him with antibiotic drops
and even made autologous eye serum drops by taking a blood sample from
Clifford, spinning it down so that it would separate into the serum and red
blood cells and applying the serum to the eye. Many times when animals have
infections or ulcers in their eyes, our medical team can use this serum trick
to help with the healing process. Unfortunately, his eye was not improving and
still appeared painful, so they decided to remove the eye to prevent further
health risks. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Despite all of his pain, Clifford remained his happy self. <o:p></o:p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi98czPYCtDkCj12QO6IuMjmrApmZS3a2cppslq3ABNY342axPszpZarnVXgcAoi0ifYL8AQG3OZ_qG5GPydjuaREO7KT0v02oX78OV7WpmyDU5TkkilA1L5f6Y4QdHvEnCv-BgwB7P_CAP/s2048/Clifford+2.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1728" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi98czPYCtDkCj12QO6IuMjmrApmZS3a2cppslq3ABNY342axPszpZarnVXgcAoi0ifYL8AQG3OZ_qG5GPydjuaREO7KT0v02oX78OV7WpmyDU5TkkilA1L5f6Y4QdHvEnCv-BgwB7P_CAP/s640/Clifford+2.JPG" /></a></div><p class="MsoNormal"><br /></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“Clifford woke up from surgery like he never even had a
major procedure,” SAHS Associate Veterinarian Dr. Leslie Hopes said. “He has been
a joy to have as a patient and is doing great with his recovery. His little
stub tail is always wiggling.” <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Clifford’s stitches were recently removed, and he is hyper
as can be. It’s as if he doesn’t care that he now has one eye. In fact, he looks
happier without it. His big, beautiful smile is proof of that! <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This gorgeous boy is now ready to find his new home. He does
the cutest jumps and is always ready to play or go for a walk. He is super friendly
and loves belly rubs! <o:p></o:p></p>

I saw her, I knew I wanted her.” <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Aguilar picked Cathy up on Aug. 11, and she couldn't have been more

of everyone he meets with his gorgeous smile. As you can see, not even the
recent amputation of his front right leg gets him down. This sweet 1-year-old
Terrier mix is now ready to find a loving, new home to call his own. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Calibri Light",sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">Groot arrived at the San Antonio
Humane Society (SAHS) as a transfer from Animal Care Services on July 20 with a
severely broken front right leg. After consultation with an orthopedic
specialist, our medical team determined that the fracture was too old for a
successful fracture repair surgery and decided an amputation would be the best choice
for his quality of life.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

Groot would make a complete recovery, and they were right. Since Groot was probably
not using his leg due to the injury, he recovered quickly and adjusted using his
three legs smoothly. Despite everything he has suffered, Groot is a happy and spunky
pup. He loves being around people and loves kittens! <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDyG18mXTij6VKJwvURSUyuScAGBy05sbkE0enegHrd5e_wiSZ1puHuH2mkRmFbii3yU3qvj1mU-AmSCz-rJUzehWlHgqvf71O4VV19FGJv-xyO7Xt4MCF9Beq7_yTR_AqJPya2bcgbzUl/s2048/Groot1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDyG18mXTij6VKJwvURSUyuScAGBy05sbkE0enegHrd5e_wiSZ1puHuH2mkRmFbii3yU3qvj1mU-AmSCz-rJUzehWlHgqvf71O4VV19FGJv-xyO7Xt4MCF9Beq7_yTR_AqJPya2bcgbzUl/s640/Groot1.jpg" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Calibri Light",sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;"><br /></span><p></p>

home! <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This handsome 2-year-old Terrier, Pit Bull mix was
transferred from Animal Care Services to the <a href="www.sahumane.org/adopt">San Antonio Humane Society</a> in
January. We quickly learned that this sweet boy has so much love to offer! <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">As one of our most active pups at the shelter, he would do
best in a home with older children and as the only dog. Once he warms up, he
becomes extremely affectionate and loves belly rubs! He would love to have a
big backyard, where he can continue to explore and learn new tricks and games. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">As part of our enrichment program, Pretzel recently enjoyed
a “Dog Day Out” out of the shelter and visited a nearby park. He loved the
change in scenery, new scents and meeting new people. We highly recommend for
Pretzel to continue with enrichment games and activities to help him stay heathy
and active. <o:p></o:p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TAnQYQErbyQ" width="320" youtube-src-id="TAnQYQErbyQ"></iframe></div><p class="MsoNormal"><br /></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Our kennel staff has noticed great improvement on his loose
leash walking and door dashing behavior during the last couple of months. He is
such a smart boy and has already learned how to sit. During his training, we
found out that he also loves to rub on grass and prefers to eat meatier treats.
<o:p></o:p></p>

Angel pet by sponsoring his adoption fee. <o:p></o:p></p>

Why two cats are better than one<p class="MsoNormal">What’s better than one cute, cuddly cat? Two cute, cuddly
cats! <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">At the <a href="www.sahumane.org">San Antonio Humane Society (SAHS</a>), we're feeling the
effects of kitten season as we work tirelessly to accommodate the overwhelming
needs of cats and kittens who come through our doors. With so many homeless cats
waiting to find loving families, right now is the perfect time to adopt a sweet
kitten…or two! <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Two cats will bring your family double the love. They make
great cuddlers and offer twice as many purrs and cheek rubs. The only thing
more heartwarming than the love of a pet is the love of two!<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">There are many
benefits of adopting two cats together: <o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">-They play, snuggle, learn to socialize and groom each
other. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">-They keep each other from getting bored, depressed, or from
developing behavioral issues. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">-They become more confident and outgoing. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Plus, if you adopt from the SAHS, your newest family members
will be spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccinations. We
currently have two pairs of cats searching for their forever home with room for
two! <o:p></o:p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn0so842cQswXZxYtwz_6BysLmGRdTVNfv8vAU5Ebppv1SuGlPm3zRZrXw4X1MMcabEaoStEKd-rrU28RbS1GwQ-FD_khPhYCgG4Xid9yE4G1hHOubfk7JD2ZBV-1SSjQ1rFKLLvv3QL3g/s1500/fozzybear+and+jon.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1500" data-original-width="1000" height="976" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn0so842cQswXZxYtwz_6BysLmGRdTVNfv8vAU5Ebppv1SuGlPm3zRZrXw4X1MMcabEaoStEKd-rrU28RbS1GwQ-FD_khPhYCgG4Xid9yE4G1hHOubfk7JD2ZBV-1SSjQ1rFKLLvv3QL3g/w650-h976/fozzybear+and+jon.png" width="650" /></a></div>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Meet Jon and Fozzy
Bear! </b>These adorable 5-month-old brothers are in search of a loving home,
where they can continue to grow and play together. These two cuties are
inseparable and love to play and cuddle all day long. They both enjoy head
scratches and love all the attention. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Meet Alice and
Amelia! </b>These beautiful 2-year-old girls have developed a special friendship
at the shelter, and we don’t have the heart to separate them. They love to
snuggle with each other during naptime and have fun playing with their
enrichment toys, especially when they find treats inside them! <o:p></o:p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivUMB6z0LPET0VVgwA_NVYjc9fmeurgZyU-43o2NBdh17KMmCD8cViqhf8efH8Jj-l4UMHJD2z_H9U8ZOyYxgWm0DUAej0ys-hQoGMOFbFYBYKz10zQONoATYGm3nPB4mU0iEOCB-6Y9cH/s1500/2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1500" data-original-width="1000" height="976" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivUMB6z0LPET0VVgwA_NVYjc9fmeurgZyU-43o2NBdh17KMmCD8cViqhf8efH8Jj-l4UMHJD2z_H9U8ZOyYxgWm0DUAej0ys-hQoGMOFbFYBYKz10zQONoATYGm3nPB4mU0iEOCB-6Y9cH/w650-h976/2.png" width="650" /></a></div>

He was extremely underweight as his back and ribs were all clearly visible. He only weighed 12.4 pounds! His sweet eyes desperately asked for a second chance.</font></p><p class="MsoNormal"><font face="">Chauncey began his journey to recovery in a wonderful foster home. As part of his treatment, he was fed four small meals a day using a slow feeder bowl to prevent him from eating too fast, which could cause complications due to his fragile state. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
It took an<a href="http://www.instagram.com/sahumane" target="_blank"> Instagram live video</a> and 160 days of searching, but Bubba finally found his forever home. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The handsome 3-year-old pit bull terrier mix pup arrived at the San Antonio Humane Society (SAHS) in early January, making him one of our longest residents this year. He was recently featured on SAHS’s Instagram live video during a visit to a nearby park, where his sweet personality instantly caught the attention of a special family.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/i1H9BEogA7I/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/i1H9BEogA7I?feature=player_embedded" width="320"></iframe></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
“When we saw him in the video, we instantly fell in love,” Stacey Escalante, Bubba’s new mom, said. “Our boys were jumping up and down and asked when we could go adopt him.” </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Escalante decided to adopt him that same day, and judging from Bubba’s face, he loved meeting his new mom and quickly jumped inside the car. He was ready to go home. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
“We are so happy to have Bubba as part of our family. He is such a good boy,” Escalante said. “He loves playing in the yard with our boys. They are teaching him how to play fetch and taking him on long walks. They are having too much fun.”<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghsGYmRWquZ2k8DE-lCw22LqFPh74OI2qvMNv-tDHjs0Ptq1e_kLgZDhPR8rzKoEViEmeKmg67w3gc4o4pGLa83smnJGd6VMQEs1yAzfhuqD23yBTyIFNV9ahyphenhyphenYnDzlDv7szolPUE5UmRe/s1600/bubba3.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="clear: both;">
During his stay at the SAHS, Bubba successfully completed his heartworm treatment, learned how to “sit” and improved his leash walking skills. Bubba was also a part of our <a href="https://sahumane.org/guardian-angel" target="_blank">Guardian Angel Program</a>, which helped waive his adoption fee.</div>
<div style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div style="clear: both;">
“Thank you for taking such good care of Bubba at the SAHS,” Escalante said. “We’re looking forward to many years and adventures with Bubba!” </div>
<div style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>

nutrition to him. <o:p></o:p></div>

June is National Foster a Pet Month, and the San Antonio Humane Society (SAHS) is grateful for all the wonderful foster families who help make our mission possible. Foster parents open their homes and hearts to our most vulnerable pets by providing a safe place for them to heal and grow when they need it the most.<br />
<br />
At the SAHS, we are lucky to witness many acts of kindness and compassion from all our foster families. One great example is Michelle Linsley and her daughter, Christina, who have fostered nearly 40 pets since becoming a foster family in August of 2018.<br />
<br />
“We love it,” Michelle Linsley said. “My daughter is my helper, and together, we try and help save as many animals as we can.”<br />
<br />
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, they didn’t hesitate to take in two of the seven Weimaraner puppies that were found abandoned in a box on the side of the road on Loop 1604.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw2tdHq_ooppsaq2ZAuP94WGjcI1SiLtsJ0-Fzu3dlu9PnrPKpLnNRR6MUGrIxWPoSs6nUDhb_64mItHcJf_dRQcfRwjS3YhRFSaV2w4WN7Og9BV2O59EtjkJaWL_27ULRcVu6OqGXJ4eM/s1600/1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw2tdHq_ooppsaq2ZAuP94WGjcI1SiLtsJ0-Fzu3dlu9PnrPKpLnNRR6MUGrIxWPoSs6nUDhb_64mItHcJf_dRQcfRwjS3YhRFSaV2w4WN7Og9BV2O59EtjkJaWL_27ULRcVu6OqGXJ4eM/s640/1.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Caring for the one-week-old pups, Eucalyptus and Lavender, proved to be a challenging yet rewarding experience.<br />
<br />
“They were strong, energetic puppies, so trying to bottle-feed them while they were salsa dancing was a bit difficult,” Michelle Linsley said with a laugh. “It almost felt like I was arm wrestling them to keep them still and keep the bottle in their mouth, but seeing them grow every day, made it all worthwhile.”<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1i2hSrqxdn04mgiT-3zINNrSju2viuOXSvWuvvt5_4OYWXxhLENdHmxkB0pwWd1zQeNGHow0eS_mqBKxKwyxYPFX0Isx67TwfFKAuTJ9-IwZA0dbiz7ffudWUP0sMBC0CrHLkOc4SyC9b/s1600/2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1i2hSrqxdn04mgiT-3zINNrSju2viuOXSvWuvvt5_4OYWXxhLENdHmxkB0pwWd1zQeNGHow0eS_mqBKxKwyxYPFX0Isx67TwfFKAuTJ9-IwZA0dbiz7ffudWUP0sMBC0CrHLkOc4SyC9b/s640/2.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
During their time together, they also enjoyed long naps on the couch and extra playtime. Once they grew healthy and strong, all the puppies returned to the shelter and quickly found their forever homes.<br />
<br />
Michelle Linsley and her daughter encourage others to become foster parents as they describe every pet as a unique and special fostering experience. They plan to foster many more SAHS pets in the future, and currently, they have begun caring for a five-week-old kitten named Squirt.<br />
<br />
“We are able to help give them a second chance at life, and to me, that’s the best feeling,” Michelle Linsley concluded.<br />

<b>National Adopt a Shelter Cat Month </b>in June also coincides with kitten season, which makes it one of the best times to help homeless cats and newborn kittens in our community find a loving home.<br />
<br />
The San Antonio Humane Society (SAHS) continues to welcome new feline fur babies in need of forever homes. We are excited to announce that our Cat Pavilion, also known as our Kitty Cottage, is complete. This exciting project will not only transform the housing of our cats, but it will also enhance our experience when we meet and interact with them. We cannot wait for you all to come visit and see it once we reopen to the general public.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
In the meantime, our feline friends are happier and more comfortable now that they have more room to roam, scratch and climb! If you’re thinking of adopting a cat or would like to help our cats and kittens currently in our care, now is the time to take action.<br />

Now that we’re experiencing warmer weather, we can begin to treat our special dogs with yummy frozen pupsicles. Not only will they provide some much-needed hydration on those hot summer days but will also make your pups feel super happy and loved.<br />
<br />
The pupsicle possibilities are endless! All you need are a few of your dog’s favorite foods, a small container, water and a freezer. Here is a quick and easy recipe recommended by our San Antonio Humane Society Animal Behavior Evaluator/Trainer Daniela Vasquez.<br />
<br />
<b>Step 1</b>. Fill the base of the container with wet food (the amount is up to you).<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<b>Step 2.</b> Fill the middle part of the container with dog kibble or small treats (the choice is up to you).<br />

<br />
<br />
<b>Step 3.</b> Stick a milk bone treat (or a treat of your choice) in the center of the container. The wet food at the base will hold it in place.<br />

<br />
<br />
<b>Step 5. </b>Serve to your furr baby!<br />
<br />
Tip: If you are having difficulty taking out the pupsicle to serve, just pour warm water on the sides of the container, and it should pop right out.<br />
<br />
Our dogs at the shelter are currently loving them! Let us know if you try the recipe at home and don't forget to share your photos with us on social media @SAhumane!<br />
