Still Looking for A Home Over 365 Days Later

Akita was first brought to the San Antonio Humane Society in early October of last year. Since then, she has spent over 365 days without a forever home.

But who's counting? ...(I am)

Currently, Akita is not sheltered at the San Antonio Humane Society. When she lived under our care (and under our roof), her time at the shelter was filled with many friendly faces and she quickly became a staff and volunteer favorite.

She even made a trip to Red McCombs Toyota, who generously sponsored her adoption fee.

But as her stay lengthened, it became increasingly difficult for her to continue acclimating to shelter life. With the help of one dedicated dog training volunteer, Akita is currently living the fostered pup life in her foster home.

 

Her foster mom, Mari, rescued Akita from neglectful circumstances and is determined to find her a forever home. 

In the care of her foster parent, Akita lives a carefree life: She never needs to be concerned with other dogs walking by or barking at her kennel door. She needn't feel restless when visitors come (or don't come) knocking on her glass window. She can work on overcoming her anxieties with other dogs and perfecting her obedience training with her foster mom. And in short: she can feel at home while still looking for her home.

But although it is in Akita's best interest to continue her time in the care of her foster parent, her time away from the San Antonio Humane Society makes it difficult for her to find a family.

So here we are.

Akita is an active 2-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix who would do well in a home without other pets. She knows how to sit, wait, and lie down on command, and she absolutely can't get enough belly rubs and tennis balls.
