“He was alert but very scared,” Dr. Leslie Hopes, associate veterinarian at the SAHS, said. “He was covered in fleas, and all four paws, entire belly and underside were wet, which can be very dangerous for a tiny kitten as they cannot regulate their body temperature yet.”
He was quickly examined and treated for an eye infection and lung “crackles,” which according to Dr. Hopes, could be from the trauma of being thrown from the car or a sign of an upper respiratory infection developing. Surprisingly, he suffered no broken bones.
Felix is now safe and in the caring hands of our SAHS clinic team, where he is receiving all the love and care he deserves. His sweet personality has revealed how affectionate, adorable and playful he can be. He also loves to make biscuits!
Dr. Hopes is proud of the SAHS clinic team for working together to provide the care he desperately needed.
“We strive to help as many animals as we can, and this little kitten needed the SAHS to help him during the scariest day of his life,” Dr. Hopes said. “Our team did not hesitate to step up and offer him a safe place to recover from an unspeakable act of cruelty and to show him compassion and love.”
It is going to take some time for Felix to fully recover and be ready for adoption. In the meantime, he continues to grow and act like the young kitten he is.
The SAHS invites the community to support pets like Felix by donating to the SAHS Emergency Fund. Every donation helps countless pets in the shelter care receive X-rays, medications, milk supplements and around-the-clock attention when they need it the most.
