Groot seems to capture the heart
of everyone he meets with his gorgeous smile. As you can see, not even the
recent amputation of his front right leg gets him down. This sweet 1-year-old
Terrier mix is now ready to find a loving, new home to call his own.
Groot arrived at the San Antonio
Humane Society (SAHS) as a transfer from Animal Care Services on July 20 with a
severely broken front right leg. After consultation with an orthopedic
specialist, our medical team determined that the fracture was too old for a
successful fracture repair surgery and decided an amputation would be the best choice
for his quality of life.
Our medical team was confident
Groot would make a complete recovery, and they were right. Since Groot was probably
not using his leg due to the injury, he recovered quickly and adjusted using his
three legs smoothly. Despite everything he has suffered, Groot is a happy and spunky
pup. He loves being around people and loves kittens!
“Groot seemed to have a positive
demeanor during his recovery, and even enjoyed cuddling one of the kitten
foster cases in the clinic office regularly,” SAHS Associate Shelter
Veterinarian Traci Gilbert said. “He is very friendly and generally a happy,
energetic boy despite his previous injury.”
Everyone at the shelter has been
falling in love with this adorable, affectionate boy and has noticed how the
loss of his leg has not stopped him from playing and getting around.
